Our new youth project is starting to come along nicely with the installation of our yet to be named hub building which we are looking forward to furnishing and decorating. Our new Young People's Project Coordinator, Angie Whitmore, has been liaising with lots of local organisations including the Canal and River Trust and local providers of youth services to best coordinate what we can offer our new young volunteers.

Our first main event is a litter pick planned for Saturday 15th May 2021 where around 30 young people will be out on the water collecting rubbish from our waterways and will include Loughborough Sea Cadets, Loughborough Torpedo Squadron, Loughborough University Canoers and members of Soar Boat Club Paddlers. One of our main boats will also be out to collect up the rubbish and provide well deserved refreshments.

We already have plans for members of the National Citizen Service for 16-17 year old to come to the base for several weeks in the summer to help with fundraising, maintenance and to train to become crew members.

We are also putting together a variety of regular volunteer placements at the base so if you or anyone you know, particularly in the 16-25 age bracket, would like to volunteer, we’d love to hear from you! Maybe we can help you with your Duke of Edinburgh or Princes Trust placement?

Please contact Angie Whitmore for further information or to discuss volunteering for the Trust.
