In 2020, we received funding from The National Lottery Community Fund to develop a Young People’s Hub at the base in Beeches Road, Loughborough. Young volunteers have been taking part in a range of water-based educational, environmental and heritage projects; gaining new experiences, learning new skills and having fun. While enjoyable, the young people have gained greater confidence, self-belief and important collaboration skills.
We have enjoyed teaming up with other local organisations and groups and have another action-packed schedule of events throughout 2024. Watch out for exciting updates over the coming months, along with ways you can become involved.
Please do read some of our participants' feedback to learn what they've gained from being involved:
Laura Sherlock, Project Lead - Leicester & Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership (LLEP)
Angie and all the team at Peter Le Marchant Trust have provided invaluable experiences to young people with SEND in Leicester and Leicestershire, demonstrating to them that even if they are unlikely (now or in the future) to have paid employment, they can meaningfully employ their time with brilliant community initiatives like volunteering on the waterways. The feedback we have had from schools has been outstanding and the fact that schools are falling over themselves to book in for 2024 and beyond, speaks volumes of the activities Angie runs.
Polly Kirk, Work Skills Co-ordinator - Employability Skills Tutor WHM Work Connections
Overall WHM Work Connections had a fantastic experience of the ‘Unbox your future’ programme with Angie, all of the staff at PLMT were kind, knowledgeable and fun to be around and the workmates that I support thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
