Get involved Volunteer Volunteer Are you wanting to help support a local charity and make a positive difference to the lives of those around you? We need you! Some of the volunteer roles our Trust offers are unique - crewing, helmspeople, skippering and boat maintenance. Our work is only possible because of our dedicated volunteers - a love of boats, caring for people, flexibility, sensitivity, working as a team, camaraderie, each day different… These are the attractions for a volunteer at our charity. Volunteering for the trust has given me the opportunity to fulfil one of my 'bucket list' ambitions to train as a skipper on larger passenger boats. It is great to be part of such a supportive and highly professional team... There is a real sense of community within the Trust; we have over 100 volunteers, some of whom have been with us for over 40 years! We are confident you'll have a wonderful experience helping our passengers and being a key part of making their day memorable. We have a thorough induction programme and provide on-going training each year and hold regular 'get togethers' where you will meet fellow volunteers and have some fun. We’ve had 14 severely disabled children and their carers on board today. One boy has never reacted to anything before but he started to respond for the first time ever when he was on the boat. It was just wonderful. Perhaps, you don't wish to be on the boats but would still like to offer your time to our Trust. Don't worry, there's plenty of opportunities! Are you a keen gardener? Our base gardens have won 'Outstanding' in Loughborough in Bloom for 4 consecutive years. We'd love to have you join our Wednesday gardening team and help us maintain our excellence. * We currently have a full team of gardening volunteers, however, if you have specialist knowledge e.g. allotment, companion planting etc., please do contact us. Do you have a youth work background? We are always looking for mentors for our youth projects - to inspire and guide our young volunteers. Do you have an interest in waterway heritage and wildlife? We are looking for people who can provide talks and help us design our workshops and literature to impart the history and uniqueness of our canals to our passengers. Do you have a marketing and administrative background? We are always keen to hear from people who would like to help spread the word and help out in our office. There's always something to do and events to prepare for at the base! Would like to help us raise funds? Please view our fundraising pages or contact our team. If you'd like to be involved, we'd love to hear from you. Apply to volunteer Manage Cookie Preferences
