About the opportunity

As volunteer crew you will be helping to run our canal boat trips on the local waterways.

Key Tasks will involve

You do not need any previous experience as all training will be given, but an interest in boating and the canals is an obvious advantage.  Our season runs from April to October, seven day a week. You can select which trips you wish to crew on.  You will learn new skills and every trip is different, so you will not have time to get bored! You will perform a variety of tasks and roles once you are trained, including passenger care, ensuring passengers get on and off our boats in a safe manner, serving refreshments, answering passengers’ queries, as well as lock management and mooring. As you gain experience, we also have more advanced volunteering roles available including Helmsman and Skippering

Time Commitment

The time you can give us is very much appreciated, there is some flexibility however in most cases our day trips need volunteers from 9.30am to 4.30pm.

Skills/attributes required

We are looking for someone with enthusiasm and good communication skills. You will be an ideal crew member if you:

  • like people;
  • like working as a team;
  • enjoy the outdoor life;
  • like learning new skills;
  • can take direction; and
  • you are reasonably fit.

Training & Support

Training will be provided and we will give you all the information required to enjoy and succeed in your volunteering role.
